I have loved the whole experience of travelling by air ever since I was a child and promised myself one day that I would learn to fly.
It was only in my late 20s that I got the opportunity to start training for my pilot’s licence; to say I became hooked was an understatement and I very quickly decided to work towards my professional licence.
My financial circumstances meant I could only fund my flight training while working and therefore the modular training route was the only way. Looking back it was the best decision, as each of the schools I trained with were focussed on ensuring I acquired the knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in the airline industry. And my existing job in IT provided experiences and skills that are transferrable to my aviation career.
One of my modular training organisations suggested I consider KURA for the final stages of my training and after gaining my commercial licences I enrolled onto the BESTPILOT programme.
BESTPILOT consolidated the knowledge I gained throughout my training, added a much greater insight into the day-to-day life of an airline pilot and prepared me for my future career through classroom, simulator and additional on-aircraft upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT). The whole process has been both engaging and fun!
Throughout the course, KURA has been providing great support and constructive feedback to help focus my efforts and study. More importantly, the way in which KURA has built BESTPILOT clearly meets the needs of airlines such as BA CityFlyer and has opened up a new and exciting opportunity that weren’t previously available for modular pilots like me.
I was fortunate to be offered a BA CityFlyer Hold Pool place following a successful interview with them in August 2015. It’s a tremendously exciting time – after all of the hard work I put in over the last few years, I can’t wait to get started with type, base and line training.
The chance to sit at the front of a modern airliner operating in and out of large and small airports across Europe is going to be an amazing experience and a great challenge to get my teeth in to. I know there’s more hard work ahead and I’m really looking forward to it!
