Flying for a living has always been a dream of mine, but it has taken 9 years of hard work to make that dream a reality.
I completed integrated flight training back in 2010 and was on a real high after completing my IR and MCC course. It quickly became clear though that getting a job was not going to be an easy matter, not least because of the state of the economy. Added to that my flight school went into liquidation meaning no employment help was on offer.
I saved for a few years while continuing to look in vain for opportunities, knowing that I needed to make a further investment in my career in order to make the final leap into the right hand seat.
In 2014 I discovered Kura and my career trajectory changed! I was given really honest feedback throughout the assessment process to help me decide if Kura was right for me and to give me some areas to work on. The course was incredibly challenging but hugely enjoyable throughout and I learnt a huge amount from the trainers, ultimately having a true understanding of what the job of First Officer involved.
Having graduated from the BESTPILOT course I was invited for assessment at AirTanker. The assessment day was intense, but thanks to the course I felt ready and equipped with the skills needed to be successful. The next day I received the incredible news that I would be starting the type rating on the a330 in a matter of weeks!
The BESTPILOT course certainly prepared me well for airline assessments, but lots of companies offer this service. What sets Kura apart is their commitment to shaping their students into outstanding future First Officers. I had a huge advantage starting my first airline job because I knew what the job entailed and how to be successful at it. I really can’t recommend Kura highly enough, especially to those who, like me, are going the ‘long way round’ to getting their first job!
