I decided that I wanted to be a pilot when I went to a demonstration by the Dutch Airforce. Watching F16’s and Apache helicopters flying overhead had a big impact on me.
I applied to the Dutch Airforce and got my first flight hours during the selection process. Unfortunately I did not pass the final test but the whole experience really ignited my passion for aviation. The moment I felt the wheels leave the runway during my first flight I knew I was going to be a pilot.
I chose the integrated training route because I preferred to study full time and focus solely on flying training for 18 months. Getting to live in the US for 12 months and Sweden for 3 months was a huge draw to me.
I heard about Kura through my course mates. We had all graduated 4 years earlier and none of us had had an airline interview; they managed to get jobs really quickly and they had only positive things to say. That made the decision to go to Kura easy for me.
I benefitted most from the interview preparation training at Kura. They really help you to understand what the airlines are looking for and how best to show that you possess all the competencies that airlines look for in a pilot.
Kura has helped me in a lot of different ways from designing a good CV, helping me prepare for my airline interview through to getting me the interview itself. Kura really changed the way I look at my own profession and really broadened my view.
It means everything to me to finally start my career as an airline pilot. I have worked so hard for this moment; the last 4 years have been pretty difficult. The decision to become an airline pilot is a big one and is not one that is taken easily. It is not easy to then live life with so much uncertainty having spent so much money. Looking back at it all and thinking about the great people I have met and experiences I have had I wouldn’t change it for the world!
I am most looking forward to learning new things and constantly improving myself as a pilot not to mention the flying itself. I am really looking forward to moving to another country although I am a bit cautious about driving on the other side of the road!
